It's Hyakkimaru and Dororo from Tezuka's Dororo series. The live-action movie will be in the States soon, it seems. I just had fun reading the first volume of the manga relased here in the states; I was so surprised and happy to see it at stores! I always wanted to read it.
This is suppose to be a stark black and white adaptation of the look of the actual manga, but with hints of color the characters were designated in production art for the anime series as well as the color manga images Tezuka produced of them; so, hints of brown in Dororo's hair and hints of red in the clothes, and hints of blue in Hyakkimaru's clothes. I think the blue of his hair was something I picked at my own discretion, however.
This is the supernatural, horror, samurai manga with Hyakkimaru, the cyborg samurai of sorts, and his sidekick, the thief Dororo. It's not evident from this picture that Hyakkimaru is not all human, but that's fine; he does fight with his own personal sword and not just his hidden blades in his arms or other array of hidden weapons.
Yes! This is once again, another entry to the contest at for their contest, which has been going for almost a year. Woo!
Honestly, this contest has been a lot of fun. I've been trying to do several different drawing techniques as well as trying to do fan art for all kinds of different Tezuka series, and not just my favorite series.
TECHNIQUE: This is very, very similar to my previous four deviations which were fanart for the series, Yu Yu Hakusho. The blood everywhere is even the same, lol. This is watercolor paper with chalk pastels, watercolor, watercolor pencils and color pencils. Lots of fun.
As usual, I don't know a lot of the series that you do...but this looks really cool. The style is a lot different than what you used to do (that's what I get for not checking anything for *years*) but it looks really cool.
