HAH HAH! He look like someone with running mascara! HEH. I swear, that's not what it is...

It's Hiei from Yu Yu Hakusho! Yay! I been saturating myself in the series again and getting back into it the past few weeks, oddly enough. I haven't been this much into Yu Yu Hakusho since around 2002-2004.

I'm playing with fandom canon (oxymoron?) in this picture. Back in the day, in 2002-2004ish, the YYH fan community was a bit stronger. Some very creative, and actually not bad fan fiction was available for the series. Some of the fandom canon was deeply entrenched with the idea that Hiei could possibly have the ability to produce Hirui stones. Let me explain.

***HIRUSEKI (also partially translated as HIRUI STONES)***
Kourime, translated to Ice Maidens, in Yu Yu Hakusho, are an all-female, asexual youkai with ki/energy of ice and snow who have the ability to produce incredibly valuable and rare gem stones called Hirui. Hirui stones are actually their tears. Hiei's sister (or half-sister...it's kinda sketchy), an ice maiden, can make these.

It was always debated if Hiei (an Emiko, which translates to "boy of fire"...in other words, a fire demon), could also produce these stones, since he was actually also half Ice Demon. (Hiei's mother had a relationship with a male fire demon at some point, a taboo in her culture). Of course the general consensus was that if Yukina produced white Hirui stones that looked akin to pearls (and if most other Ice Maidens produced light colored, white or blue ones), wouldn't that mean that Hiei's would be the opposite, a black color? Also, if these gems were so rare and expensive, his black colored ones would be extremely rare.

Of course, we'll never know, right? Hiei never cries...ever. At least never in the series

Most certainly, all kinds of weird stories came from these fandoms though; lol, like Hiei may possibly have the ability to change gender or does later in life, since his genetics of being half-Ice Maiden, an all female race, is too strong. Heh. Ahhhh...demon genetics...the possibilities!

The other fandom canon thing I've seen more in doujinshi than fanficiton is the idea that if the Jagan, his implanted third eye, ever cried, it would cry blood. Eh, why not? Heh. I'm always up for drawing blood.




***TECHNIQUE***
This is watercolor paper. I started out with a light sketch and purposely kept everything rough. Everything on here is a combo of Prismacolor chalk pastels, watercolor, Prismacolor watercolor pencils, Crayola color pencils, and India Ink. I really wanted to use the watercolor paper's texture to my advantage. I have mixed results. I want to try these combos again, but I hope to attain a softer image, which probably means a less textured paper.

I was going for an intense stare, not for a sad one for his crying or anything too emotional ridden. That's not just Hiei. I was also trying to keep the drawing pretty canon; I like a nice-looking, but very evil looking Hiei; I don't dislike bishounen, pretty-boy Hiei, but I see it a lot in fanart. HEH.




***SIDE NOTE***
So, I've had trouble sleeping lately; a cough has been keeping me awake, and now my sleeping pattern is completely out of whack. So, I figured I just won't go to bed tonight. I can't anyway; I have stuff to do for tomorrow yet. If I go to bed now and actually manage to get to sleep, I won't wake up in time to work on it before class

Well, I'm having artist's block. I'm suppose to have a sketch all made up and ready for Printmaking tomorrow. So, to blow some steam and get some drawing going, I did this experimental drawing yesterday. Fan art, yay.
